MPrint Mobile

The MPrint Mobile App (the App) is designed to provide users with a simpler way to release their Follow Me jobs. Currently, users can only release these Follow Me jobs to multifunction devices on campus that are equipped with card readers for authentication. This restricts the ability to release Follow Me jobs to a limited number of devices on campus. The App will enable us to expand the opportunity for users to release Follow Me jobs to any print device on campus that we (the MiWorkspace Engineering team) support.

In order to enable a printer to accept Follow Me jobs, we will procure, configure, and install Bluetooth Beacons. These beacons broadcast configurable data to devices that are nearby (~100 foot radius). In our use case, the beacons will broadcast a queue name. The beacons are plugged into an available USB port on the printer to draw power. Users of The App will see a list of their pending Follow Me jobs, from which they can choose the ones they wish to release. Next, they can approach the printer they wish to release their jobs on. The App receives the queue name broadcasted by the Bluetooth Beacon and presents it to the user in a list of optional printers that the jobs may be released to.
