Edinburgh & Lothian Looksee AR

Looksee is an augmented reality viewer used to find places of interest directly on your phone camera's screen and add fun, knowledge and interest to your adventures and tours.

Once downloaded no wi-fi or cellular network connection is needed in order for it to work, so you can use when out and about where there is no signal coverage.

This version is for Edinburgh and the Lothians and locates places in and around Edinburgh City Centre, the wider Edinburgh Area and the Pentland Hills. It reaches a rectangle stretching to North Berwick at its northern most edge, east past Dunbar, west past Whitburn and south past West Linton. In total an area of over 2000 km2.

All areas within the region are covered including Armadale, Bathgate, Bonnyrigg, Broxburn, Dalkeith, Dunbar, East Calder, Edinburgh, Gullane, Haddington, Linlithgow, Livingston, Loanhead, Mid Calder, North Berwick, Penicuik, Port Seaton, Prestonpans, Tranent, Uphall, West Calder and Whitburn.

In fact there are around 4,000 places of interest viewable within the App including Edinburgh Castle, the Pentland Hills, North Berwick Law and Bass Rock.

Categories that can be viewed and selected include Tourist Attractions, Hills, Lakes, Parks & Woodlands, Cities, Towns, Suburban Areas, Villages & Hamlets, Airports, Train & Major Bus Stations, Municipal Buildings, Places of Worship, Historic Sites and Museums & Arts.

Looksee features include:

- a settings menu (using which the categories of points of interest you wish to display can be easily selected)
- an on screen distance slider (for an interactive depth of view filter up to 10km)
- an on screen zoom (using an on screen pinch to zoom gesture)
- a snap shot camera (for annotating your photos)
- a video recorder for saving and sharing interesting places on social media (accessed by holding the camera icon for 1 second)
- hold face down for radar view of everything around you
- interactive objects
- on screen help menu (press the Logo)
- simulate option if you are outside region *** new
